Inter Too Strong for Under-Performing Reds

The first knockout round kicks off in fine style, with two of the most successful teams in European history, Liverpool and Inter, face off for a place in the quarter-finals.

The last few seasons have seen Inter take a stranglehold over the rest of Italian football, as the Nerazzurri have won back to back titles in the last two seasons, along with back to back Coppa Italia trophies in 04/05 and 05/06. While Inter are dominant domestically, it’s the complete opposite for Liverpool, who have excelled in Europe the last few years, becoming the champions of Europe in 2005 and finishing runner-up to Milan in last season’s competition. With the likes of Luis Figo, Ibrahimovic and Veira, Inter will lo ok to terrorise the Liverpool defence. And, as ever, Benitez will be relying on Gerrard and Torres to inspire the Reds to victory.

Ladbrokes have priced Liverpool 11/8 as favourites for this home leg of the tie. However with the Reds current lack of form the 15/8 about an Inter win with Paddy Power looks worth a punt.
