Arsenal showed some real character in coming from two nil down to beat Standard Liege in their last game. Hopefully they can continue that form in the Premiership. Olympiakos beat the Dutch side Az Alkmaar 1-0 on the same night. They have had a reasonable start to their domestic league but it is early days yet as they have only played half the games that Arsenal Have played in the Premiership. I predict that Arsenal will win this game easily & go a step further towards qualifying from their group. This is an easy group for the Gunners & as they have beat their strongest rivals away already I can't really see anyone stoping them from coming top of their group.

Liverpool are a good run at present after a couple of early season defeats but they struggled to beat the Hungarian champions Debrecen 1-0 in their last Champions League game. I can see them having trouble in this game & it wouldn't surprise me if they lost. Fiorentina lost their opening game in the Champions League 1-0 away to Lyon. This was not a dreadful result but they will have to get some points fast if they wish to get out of their group. Fiorentina had their best season for years last year & had their reward in qualifying for the Champions League. This season they have left off where they finished last season & are unbeaten in their opening three games, winning the last two. Last season they knocked Everton out of the UEFA Cup which was mainly due to their impressive 2-0 home win. Obviously the days of Italian Clubs dominating Europe like the English clubs are now is a thing of the past, that does not however, mean they still can't be difficult to beat in their own backyard. Fiorentina have a very passionate home crowd & that coupled with Liverpool's average start to the season means I am going to back a Home win for the Italian club. This defeat will not however stop Liverpool from qualifying from their group.

Rangers drew their opening game away to German side Stuttgart which was a good point all considered. They came from behind to get a second half goal which showed character. They are top of the SPL on goal difference from Celtic (who else?) and have the experience of two years ago when they reached the UEFA Cup final in Manchester. Sevilla meanwhile had a good season last year. This season they have already lost one of their opening games but it is early days yet. I do not however expect them to come close to ending the season ahead of Barcelona or Real Madrid. It is only a few years ago that they went one better than Rangers & won the UEFA Cup, beating England's Middlesbrough 4-0 in one of the most one sided finals in years. This game I feel will end in stalemate. A low scoring game as well but a point that will be seen as useful to both sides.

Chelsea have had a great start to the season in winning every game so far including their opening game in the Champions League in which they beat the Portuguese champions one nil. This was a hard thought victory but Chelsea won't care as it was a vital start for them against their main rivals in group D. Apoel Nicosia have done really well to get to the champions league having knocked out Danish Club FC Copenhagen in the Qualifying stages. This is their second attempt at Champions League glory having being knocked out in the third qualifying round in 2002/03 season. After being knocked out that season they went into the UEFA Cup where they were knocked out by Hertha Berlin in the second round. This was some feat for the club from Cyprus, as is their qualification for this years Champions League. They had an excellent start in their first game drawing away to Athletico Madrid 0-0. They will however come back down to earth against Chelsea. Chelsea are good at winning these types of games in Europe & I see no reason why they won't win this one. A good pay day for the club from Cyprus though.

Manchester had a good start in Europe by winning away to Turkish Champions Besiktas 1-0. It is not that long ago that United might have lost a fixture like that in Europe but they are getting more professional in Europe as their two champions League Final appearances on the trot would suggest. Wolfsburg are the German champions having shocked everyone in Germany by winning their first title last year. This has enabled them to qualify for the champions league for the first time. They are a small club and with a ground capacity of only 30,000 they must have upset certain members of UEFA who only like big money clubs. Good luck to them I say. This is only the third time in their history that they have qualified for Europe (I don't include the Inter-Toto Cup). I'm afraid that they will come unstuck against Manchester United, especially as the game is at Old Trafford. Wolfsburg won their first ever Champions League game against CSKA Moscow, 3-1. A great result for them. I can see them making a good account of themselves but not enough I'm afraid to get a result.
