FA Cup Semi Final Predictions for April 10th/11th 2010 by Doug Martin
FA Cup Semi Finals:
Match 1: Aston Villa- Chelsea: (Saturday April 10th:5pm)
No one will need reminding that Chelsea beat Aston Villa 7-1 only a couple of weeks ago. This result has helped put Chelsea back on top in the Premiership title race. Last Saturday as I have already mentioned they beat Manchester United 2-1 away at Old Trafford despite the best efforts of the ref. United followed up that defeat with a 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League but went out on the away goals ruling. Meanwhile Aston Villa recovered from their 7-1 defeat at Chelsea by winning 1-0 at Bolton which kept alive their slim chances of ending the season in forth place. They are still 7th & hopefully with their game in hand they can overtake Liverpool as they are only the 1 point behind them. They are5 points behind Manchester City in 4th place & with the season coming into the final lap I don’t think they will finish in 4th. A shame, as I like them. Chelsea are on top form at present after recovering from a wobbly run. Despite the 7-1 victory maybe being a handicap I still think that Chelsea will win. In fact I have predicted them to win every round so far & I don’t see them losing to a very good villa side who are beginning to tire after being involved in two cup runs & a battle for 4th place in the league as well. A Chelsea win but it will be a lot closer than the league meeting at Stamford Bridge.

Match 2: Spurs - Portsmouth: (Sunday April 11th:4pm):
On paper this game is a no brainer to predict as Portsmouth are bottom of the Premiership & heading towards the delights of Championship football. This sounds like I am making fun of the second tier but I am not as I feel in a lot of ways it is better than the Premiership. Portsmouth could only draw 0-0 at home to midtable Blackburn on Saturday who have a very bad away record this season. Despite their dreadful season in the league Portsmouth have somehow had a great run in the FA Cup beating Coventry (after a replay), Sunderland, Southampton (away) & Birmingham. Unlike Aston Villa, Chelsea & Spurs (who I have a 100% correct Prediction rate this season in the FA Cup) I have predicted Portsmouth to lose everyone of their FA Cup ties this season, so that means as I am going to predict them to lose to Spurs they will of course win. Ha. Spurs had a bad result on Saturday getting beat 3-1 at Sunderland who have rediscovered their home form from earlier in the season. The score could have been a lot worse for Spurs. Because of this defeat Spurs have dropped to 5th as Manchester City have overtaken them thanks to a 6-1 victory at Burnley. In the league results between these sides Spurs won both games including a recent 2-0 victory at home. A spurs win as I can’t believe that Portsmouth have even managed to get this far.
