Dream aimed at Irish Hennessey return

The race against time to have the smart chaser Jessies Dream ready in time for the four-day Cheltenham Festival that begins on March 13 gathered pace as trainer Gordon Elliott pencilled in a return to the fray for his talented performer in the Hennessey Gold Cup at Leopardstown on February 12, writes Elliot Slater.

Winner of the Grade 1 Bar One Racing Drinmore Novices Chase at Fairyhouse last term, the nine-year-old went on to be surprisingly beaten at long odds-on by Magnanimity in a muddling three-runner affair at Leopardstown last January before being sent to Cheltenham to contest the Grade 1 RSA Chase. Given a fine ride by Timmy Murphy, the 10/1 shot travelled well throughout the three-mile-one-furlong contest before hitting the front approaching the second from home.

With Bostons Angel coming hard at him Jessies Dream came under pressure after the last and he began to edge to his right as the pair were locked in a duel all the way up the hill, Bostons Angel eventually getting there in the dying strides to score by a neck. Elliott's gelding reportedly returned home to Ireland quite sore so connections decided to call an end to the season and save him for this campaign and a return trip to Cheltenham to contest the Gold Cup. Those following the 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup betting will be wondering if he has what it takes.

A couple of minor setbacks have resulted in the nine-year-old not yet being seen this term, but connections are now bullish about the way the current 25/1 chance for the blue riband event has been working ahead of his first outing of the term. People following the Betfair Cheltenham market movers will have to keep an eye on him. Jessies Dream also holds an entry in the two-mile-five-furlong Grade 1 Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham, a contest for which he is generally on offer at 20/1, but appears more likely to go for the premier event of the week.
