League One Football ~ Preseason Predictions 2009/10
League One Football:
Champions: Leeds United
Runners up: Millwall
Playoffs Winners: Charlton Athletic
Play off Finalists: Huddersfield Town, Colchester United & Oldham Athletic
Relegation: Swindon Town, Exeter City, Carlisle United & Brighton & Hove Albion
There is no way that Leeds are going to go up through the playoffs unless Australia win the 4th test by an innings, opps. Seriously, this year they are going to go up. Millwall looked good in large spells last season & were unlucky to not go up through the playoffs. This year under Kenny Jacket I expect them to go one better. Of the three big clubs to have come down, Charlton are my favourite to bounce straight back through the playoffs. Southampton have had points deducted and while I was considering tipping Norwich I think their record 7-1 home defeat to Colchester on the opening day suggests that things have not bottomed out yet at Carrow Road.
In the relegation battle I feel that Swindon have been in decline for some years now & they will go down like a lead brick. Exeter like Hereford last season will find two promotions in quick succession too much and fall straight back down taking Carlisle & Brighton with them. That is very hard on Brighton as they have been treated very badly in trying to build a new ground, ie, it taking too long which has forced them to play at a pretty bad temp ground. This is simply not a situation of their own making. Men in suits again. Carlisle are simply on a downward trend following on from last seasons disappointing final placing.
