League Two Football:
Champions: Notts County
Runners up: Bournemouth
3rd Place: Rotherham United
Playoffs Winners: Aldershot Town
Play off Finalists: Shrewsbury Town, Port Vale, & Lincoln city
Relegation: Morecambe & Accrington Stanley
A five nil thrashing of Bradford in their first game bodes well for Notts County & I think they will benefit from a massive injection of confidence with the arrival of Sven. Bournemouth did really well to stay up last year after their point’s deduction. They will carry on their fine form and claim promotion. Rotherham are another club who did bloody well despite a points deduction (a familiar story) & would have made the playoffs if it wasn’t for their punishment. Mark Robbins has done well since taking over at Rotherham and despite playing at a temp ground I expect them to gain promotion which to be honest they deserve after the last few difficult seasons. Aldershot came mid table last season after their first season back in the football league since the early 90’s. This season I feel they will improve & probably surprise themselves with promotion through the playoffs.
Down at the Bottom I’m afraid its goodbye to Accrington who simply don’t get the gates & therefore the revenue to compete at this level. A shame as they are a famous old name. Morecambe are having the same problem but are moving to a new ground for the start of the 2010/11 season. This should help their bank balance but I’m afraid it will be in the conference. I must point out that I am not bitter because they knocked my team York City out of the play-offs a couple of seasons ago. Never….
