League Two

Promotion & Relegation ~ League Two

The following are my Promotion & Relegation predictions for the forthcoming English football season (2008/09). These predictions cover the English professional divisions,ie, Premiership to Division two as well as the Blue square Premier League.

Explanations these predictions are to be found at the end of this article.

League Two 2008/9:

Champions: Bradford City 17/2 with bet365

Runners up: Grimsby Town

3rd Place: Rochdale

Playoffs: Brentford, Morecambe, Notts County & Shrewsbury Town
(Winners: Shrewsbury)

Relegated: Luton Town & Dagenham & Redbridge

Relegated: Stoke City, Hull City & Wigan Athletic

Reasons for the above predictions:

League Two: Bradford City, Grimsby Town, Rochdale & Shrewsbury Town (Promoted):

Bradford City improved in the second half of last season and coupled with a manager who actually shares the passion of the fans I think they will go up. Also a great idea of the club to have such cheap season tickets which has given them average crowds of around 13,000. I also note that their near neighbours Huddersfield Town have copied the idea.

The experience of Grimsby Town’s manager Alan Buckley will work again and end in promotion. The only question I have is why do the club insist on a yoyo relationship with Mr Buckley. Far easier to keep him on a long term contract methinks?

Rochdale had their best season in 30 plus years in getting to the playoff final and losing to Stockport County. At last their time has come and they will get out of the bottom division. There will be many neutrals who will be pleased for them. Shrewsbury Town did poorly last season after the previous years playoff final defeat and parted company with their manager. I expect them to go up through the playoffs. A very stable club getting it’s due reward.

Luton Town & Dagenham & Redbridge: (Relegated)

This is the easiest prediction of the lot. Luton Town have been cheated as far as I am concerned. Their thirty point deduction is a sham. I am positive that certain premiership clubs would not receive this type of punishment. Double standards anyone?

Dagenham & Redbridge shouldn’t even be in the league and if it wasn’t for the mismanagement at Mansfield and Wrexham they would have gone back down to their natural level last year.

This season they will.
