More misery expected for Keane

Man United v Blackburn Prediction:

Saturday 31st December 2011, Barclays Premier League: 12:45

Author: Thomas Rooney 29/12/2011

Manchester United will be looking to continue their excellent form this weekend when they take on bottom of the table Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford.

Domestically, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have been excellent during December. They have won all five of their Premier League games, scoring 17 goals in the process.

This means that they are level on points with league leaders Manchester City going into this weekend’s fixtures and because City play on Sunday, they will be top going into 2012 if they get a point against Rovers.

This is something they are widely expected to do of course. They may have their injuries – Jonny Evans has been added to a long list of sidelined players – but they should have enough to get the job done, much like they did in the 5-0 victory over Wigan on Boxing Day.

It is encouraging for Ferguson that the players coming into the team because of the injuries are performing well too. Dimitar Berbatov for example has scored four goals in his last two games, his first Premier League strikes of the campaign.

Michael Carrick played in an unfamiliar defensive position against Wigan too, while Patrice Evra was more central than usual, so credit must go to United for racking up the points during an injury crisis.

As for Blackburn, well they secured an excellent point at Anfield last time out. It doesn’t signal the end to their problems though. Far from it. They are five points adrift of safety and the fans are still extremely unhappy with the owners and the coaching team at the club.

However, manager Steve Kean has been talking about his transfer plans in January, so it seems like he is well set to remain in the job for a while yet. It’s not as if he is going to be sacked on the back of a defeat to Manchester United is it?

If the owners were going to sack Kean, it would have been after the 2-1 home defeat to Bolton. However, they have stuck with him and they will be hoping that their loyalty doesn’t go to waste.

There is no doubting that this is a daunting trip for Rovers though. They meet a United side well and truly in the goals and go into this game on the back of no away wins so far this season.

With this in mind, a comfortable United victory is expected as they continue to heap pressure on current league leaders Manchester City.
