Martin Keighley – Stable Focus

Steady improvement has been the hallmark of the Martin Keighley yard based in Condicote, Gloucestershire. Winners are always welcome by any stable and Keighley has provided those on a regular basis since he started to really develop the stable in the 2007-08 National Hunt season – with the 2009-10 season providing a total of 27 winners from 166 runners. He looks sure to top that total in this National Hunt season already capturing 24 wins from 167 runners at a strike-rate of 14% and his team looks the strongest that he has ever had. Like all stables he is always looking for those horses that can give him those big and high-profile Saturday winners – the exposure from those providing the impetus for the stable to go onto bigger and better things.

This year Keighley feels that he has a number of those types of horses as the stable has got stronger and stronger – Benbane Head, Hard To Swallow, Champion Court and the wonderfully named Havingotascoobydo all capable of winning big races. Anyone looking at the best online horse racing betting should remember this.

Beyond those though Keighley has plenty of interesting horses in his yard and here we pick out three that could certainly pay to follow over the rest of the jumps season.

Any Currency was a very smart handicap chaser, but he sustained an injury last season before coming back to the track recently at Sandown where although he looked one of the first beaten he ran on in great style to take third. His trainer is keen to give him just four races this term and it looks as though the Welsh National will be the next outing off a potentially interesting mark before a crack at Aintree via a prep race.

Wolf Moon is one from the Keighley yard that you may have to wait for but after losing his confidence over fences he looks to be on his way back and he is being freshened up for a spring campaign on better ground. He looks well-handicapped over fences and will be worth looking out for in the spring.

One of the lesser lights in the yard is Brimham Boy but he could be on the way back. Harshly handicapped after his win at Huntingdon last year his recent fifth at Towcester showed him to be on the way back and the handicapper is starting to show some mercy. That promise was shown to be true when he was second at Hereford on his most recent outing, partnered by 10lbstable conditional Daniel Hiskett, demonstrating once again that we think he is better at going right-handed. One who is sure to pick up a small handicap this winter for the Keighley yard.

Martin Keighley is one of those yards that will get stronger and stronger over the coming years and he is surely not far away from landing one of those big Saturday handicaps.
