Premier League Betting
Premier League Games 20/21/22 October 2007 Everton 2/1 v Liverpool 11/10 (draw 9/4)
Probably the best local derby match in the Premier League. Liverpool travel across Stanley Park needing 3 points to get the monkeys off their back. A few snide comments have been thrown in by the press about Liverpool’s chances of winning the title after a few draws which in fairness should have been wins. For this match Liverpool will hope Torres gets over his thigh muscle problem which has kept him out of international action last week. Everton have been steady so far but form goes out of the window in this fixture.
Given Liverpool desperately need a win to give their fans hope once again and the bragging rights over the Evertonians, it’s best to go with them to take this at 11/10. A draw on the handicap (Liverpool -1) at 5/2 a good bet too.
Arsenal 2/9 v Bolton 9/1 (draw 4/1)
Poor old Sammy Lee, his reputation is in tatters after a terrible start to management with Bolton. His coaching credential with Liverpool, England and Bolton are second to none, I just think he has found the transition to management too much. Arsenal are still winning and still playing Arsenalesque football. They will win this one but Bolton have a history of causing upsets against the Gunners so be careful with this one.
Still, I go for a 3-1 win for Arsenal at 10/1. Robin Van Persie has been in fine form lately and is 7/2 to open the scoring.
Blackburn 4/6 v Reading 7/2 (draw 12/5)
Most nailed on bet of the season so far at a reasonable price. Reading are so poor this season, away from home they are all over the place.
Blackburn are a rugged side who battle for everything and will take this match for sure. Lump on the 4/6!!
Fulham 8/11 v Derby 10/3 (draw 9/4)
Another match which looks straightforward, Fulham have signed some cracking players under Lawrie Sanchez. David Healy and Diomansy Kamara have been a revelation. Derby are going down, let's face it they will not be in the Premier League next season. They have struggled in every game so far except for the 1-0 home win over and under par Newcastle.
Fulham should take the 3 points at 8/11. Clint Dempsey who has already scored a few goals this season is 7/1 to score first.
Man City 4/7 v Birmingham 9/2 (draw 12/5)
This seems too easy, yet another game which should go to the home team. Man City are exceeding everyone’s expectations this season and good luck to them. After years of under performing they are finally winning games. The new Brazillian Elano has been phenomenal – no other word to describe him. He can do everything, pass, score direct bullet free kicks, score placed cute free kicks, make mazy runs, the lot. With him in the team they have a chance against anyone.
Man City will win this at 4/7 with the aforementioned Elano at 8/1 to net first. Under 2.5 goals at 8/11 could be worth a punt too.
Middlesbrough 4/1 v Chelsea 8/13 (draw 12/5)
Middlesbrough are playing with so many youngsters in the team at the moment it’s hard to see them winning many games until they get their top players back. In their last game they gave a debut to a teenager playing up front…alone – not easy. Chelsea seem to be getting back on track after an excellent win in Valencia, losing John Terry is a blow but now Carvalho is back, they have Alex or Tal Ben Haim to deputise. Didier Drogba netted twice for the Ivory Coast in midweek showing he is in fine fettle.
A comfortable away win at 8/13 is on the cards. Chelsea half time – full time is 11/8.
Wigan 13/8 v Portsmouth 11/8 (draw 11/5)
A tricky one, possibly the trickiest of the weekend. Portsmouth are looking good at the moment, they are scoring plenty and winning in style, just look at the 7-4 win over Reading. Wigan are “strange”, they play well and work hard – yet rarely get the 3 points they deserve i.e. the game against Liverpool a few weeks ago.
Not too sure which way this will go so a draw is probably safest at 11/5. A draw at half time at even money is a good bet. A bet that has served me well in the past.
Aston Villa 7/2 v Man Utd 4/6 (draw 12/5)
Villa have done very well at home this season, and in fact away! They have some pacey characters in Young, Moore and Agbonlahor. Man Utd too have there own fair share of pace with the in-form Rooney and Ronaldo, both of which scored in their midweek international matches. I have to say that this will be a good match with some goals but a draw seems likely.
I may be brave and go for a 2-2 draw at 14/1. I may be way off but I just have a “feeling”. Aston Villa +1 on the handicap at 11/10 may be a good bet.
West Ham 4/5 v Sunderland 3/1 (draw 9/4)
West Ham @ 4/5 – easy as that! Doesn’t have to be justified, just common sense.
Newcastle 5/4 v Tottenham 7/4 (draw 9/4)
Only Mystic Meg can predict this one. You never know how either of these teams will perform, both are like Jekyll and Hyde. Martin Jol must be feeling the pressure a little and is need of a good win. Newcastle now have Michael Owen back who can be relied upon to do what he did for England against Russia…erm sratch that – Michael Owen cannot be relied upon to get up above a defender and head the ball on to set up a goal, surely that will be Viduka’s job if he plays.
Either way this game will be a draw.
