Spurs to Edge Sven's City
Man City v Tottenham – Kick-off: Sun 16 March 1600
So near but yet so far as Spurs bowed out of the UEFA Cup at the hands of PSV Eindhoven. The performance in the main was encouraging, but Darren Bent, though he swept home his penalty with confidence, proved that the sixteen million pounds spent on him in the summer has truly gone to waste. No skill, a woeful first touch and a lack of aerial power; not something you'd expect for such expense.
On a different note, Spurs know that they will have to show character for the remainder of the season. This can hopefully be done without the divine intervention of the Herman Munster doppelganger, Younes Kaboul. As a Spurs fan, you need to find someone in the squad to make the scapegoat, however irrelevant it seems, and Kaboul being that figure appears entirely justified based on this season.
Spurs' remaining fixtures could be more difficult; two home games against two of the so-called 'big four' in Chelsea and Liverpool appear to be the toughest tasks on paper. Sunday will pair Spurs with Sven Goran Eriksson's Manchester City; seemingly faltering after a fairytale start to their season. Eastlands was their fortress; a place where the blue half of Manchester appeared to be immune from defeat. However, if Spurs were able to beat them with ten men back in December, bearing in mind City had won ten straight games at home before that Carling Cup fixture, then there is hope. Everton have also proved recently that Sven's men aren't infallible at home, so there are possibilities. Hopefully Jermaine Jenas will have had his backside well and truly kicked by Senor Ramos, and will continue to show the improvement he has been up until this point. Is 100/1 worth a shout on Chimbonda taking a penalty?
2-1 to Spurs 11/1 with William Hill.
