The Showdown: Tottenham Hotspur V West Ham United
Tottenham v West Ham – Kick-off: Sun 9 March 1500
So Spurs have had a couple of weeks of consolidation and calm after the triumphant events of Wembley… well, that's what should have happened.
The Spanish contingent seem to have disregarded the league campaign since Spurs have already achieved European football for next season, but the scary reality is that another eight points at least need to be secured to avoid a relegation scrap. It's understandable to rest the rock that is Ledley King, however, Spurs will need to find a better replacement than northern rock misfit Younes Kaboul, a prime example of how Spurs are easy to con into buying over-priced players. His awful performances need to be seen to be believed; he may as well be a twelfth man for all of Spur's opposition. Can't pass, no positional sense, eight million pounds? As for January signing Gilberto, his performance on Thursday proved that just because you're Brazilian, it doesn't mean to say you're any good. A Rugby tackle to stop a PSV attack compounded with a cardinal sin resulting in the winning goal. He needs to understand that if you want to succeed in English football, you do not dribble on the edge of your own penalty area, 'kick it out the f***in' ground' as Jack Charlton once yelled.
With Spurs straying eight points behind West Ham, it's fair to say Spurs won't be leapfrogging into the top half of the Premiership in the foreseeable future, but it really is a must-win game, considering Curbishley's army have forgotten how to work at both ends in their last two outings. There will be a lot of pride at stake given the fierce nature of this London derby, but another thing is for certain, Spurs' strikers need to get scoring again, to prevent Darren Bent from being given another chance. So come on Spurs, just outscore the Hammers, because whether it's Robinson or Cerny between the sticks, one of them will make a huge mistake, so don't bet on a clean sheet. And Lasagne is off the menu!
2-1 in Spurs' favour 7/1 with William Hill.
