Premiership Predictions
Premiership, FA Cup Predictions & Correct Scores for March 6th to 08th March 2010
Best Predicted result(s) of the previous week: “Arsenal winning at Stoke at the third attempt in two seasons”
Last weekend was not good. I only predicted three correct results. They were Arsenal winning at Stoke, Birmingham beating Wigan & Liverpool beating Blackburn. I came very close on some other fixtures, mainly Everton losing at Spurs 2-1 when I said that they would draw 2-2. The League cup final was another “Classic” example of the referee giving Manchester United the Cup/game. Manchester United should have been down to ten men after conceding a penalty. There is pretty much no way that they would have held Villa for 85 minutes with ten men. Time & time again the broadcasters on Radio five said that The referee was being bias towards Manchester. How much was the ref bribed for this game then & will anyone in power do anything about this bias? No they won’t because the powers that be are part of this bias.
Onto this weeks games which include both the FA Cup & Premiership games upto next Wednesday. Good luck again.
Section one: FA Cup Previews:
Match 1: Fulham - Spurs: (Saturday March 6th 5.25pm):
Fulham are doing well again this season. They are through to the next round of the UEFA Cup after an arrogate victory last week. They now face an in form Spurs side in the Quarter finals of the FA cup. The two sides drew 0-0 over Christmas at Craven Cottage. I sense a similar result in this game. Fulham improved their away record with a 0-0 draw away at Sunderland on Sunday. They are neatly placed in mid-table now. Spurs meanwhile beat Everton at home on Sunday 2-1. This was a great result for them in their bid to take forth place come the end of the season. Spurs previous away game saw them win 3-0 at out of form Wigan. Can’t see a similar result in this game as Spurs have failed to win away at a top ten side all season. A draw methinks & Spurs after a replay.
Result Prediction: Spurs to win after a replay
Score Prediction: Fulham 1 Spurs 1
Match 2: Portsmouth - Birmingham: (Saturday March 6th 12.30pm):
Portsmouth are relegated after their point deduction for daring to go into administration. How dare they! They now face a Birmingham side having a great season but who have faded a bit because of three successive away defeats. They are however still winning away in the cup, cue their victories at Everton & Derby in previous rounds of the Cup. Birmingham beat Wigan on Saturday at home 1-0 but by all accounts it should have been more. Portsmouth managed a very rare win in the league on Saturday 2-1 at Burnley which backs up my view that Burnley will be relegated by the end of the season. Portsmouth have failed to beat Birmingham in the league so far this season & that record is set to continue on Saturday.
Result Prediction: A score draw
Score Prediction: Portsmouth 1 Birmingham 1 (Birmingham to win replay)
Match 3: Chelsea - Stoke: (Sunday March 7th 4pm):
Chelsea are seemingly in trouble. They lost their unbeaten home record after losing 4-2 to Manchester City on Saturday, a result which opens up the title race even more as Arsenal won & closed the gap. Will they bounce back. Well yes I think they will & starting with this game. The reason for this is that Stoke have only won two away games all season & they also don’t score many goals period. They did however win their last away game 2-1 at Portsmouth but Portsmouth are a different team compared to Chelsea. Stoke have done well to reach this round having beat Arsenal & Manchester City (after a replay) so they will be confident. Stoke like Chelsea lost at the weekend at home to Arsenal (as Predicted) so both teams come into the game on the back of defeats. Still can’t see Stoke winning though.
Result Prediction: A Chelsea win
Score Prediction: Chelsea 3 Stoke 1
Match 4: Reading - Aston Villa: (Sunday March 7th 1.45pm):
Reading have done really well to reach the Quarter finals considering the teams they have knocked out. They beat Liverpool after a replay, then Burnley & finally in the last round they beat WBA away after a home draw. Their form in the Championship is improving as well & they are beginning to climb away from the bottom four. Their cup run has given them a much needed lift at the right time in the league. They won 5-0 at the weekend against Sheffield Wednesday. Aston Villa will be pissed off they lost to Manchester united on Sunday in the League cup Final, especially as Manchester should have been down to 10 men in the 6th minute. None the less they are having a good season & they should be a step to far for reading. A Villa win but a close game.
Result Prediction: An Aston Villa win
Score Prediction: Reading 1 Aston Villa 2
Section 2: Premiership Reviews:
Match 5: Arsenal - Burnley: (Saturday March 6th 3pm):
Arsenal are right back in the title race due to their great 3-1 win at Stoke & Chelsea’s shock (tabloid word) defeat at home to Manchester City. They should carry on their mini unbeaten run by beating A Burnley side who have yet to win away from home this season in the League. In fact they have only gained one pint away from home all season & that was a surprise 3-3 draw at Manchester city. Burnley have won only once since before Christmas & that was a few weeks ago against West Ham. Burnley’s home form was keeping them out of the drop zone but their defeat at home to already doomed Portsmouth on Saturday has put them into the bottom three. Brian laws will prove my prediction right of him taking them down. A shame that Burnley’s board have been so stupid as Burnley are one of the founder members of the football league. What, you didn’t know in this Premiership obsessed media age? A very easy home win.
Result Prediction: Arsenal to win
Score prediction: Arsenal 3 Burnley 0
Match 6: West Ham - Bolton: (Saturday March 6th: 3pm):
West ham & Bolton have both Climbed away from the table after recent results. West Ham may have lost at Manchester United last midweek but their 3-0 beating of Hull the Saturday before has lifted them out of the relegation zone. Like wise Bolton who beat Wolves 1-0 at the weekend to take them to 15th in the table but it must be stressed only two points ahead of the drop zone. Apart from Portsmouth (already doomed) & Burnley it could be one of several clubs who go down. West Ham should win this game as I feel that Bolton are very poor away from home this season, in fact I can’t think of a game aprt from Birmingham that they have won away? A West Ham win which could very easily put Bolton back in the Relegation places come the end of the weekends fixtures.
Result Prediction: a West Ham win
Score Prediction: West Ham 3 Bolton 0
Match 7: Wolves - Manchester United: (Saturday March 6th 5.30pm):
Wolves are just above the drop zone & so won’t be too pleased that they have to play Manchester United. Last time these sides played this fixture Wolves won 1-0. United failed to win the Premiership that year. Let’s hope for a similar result but I must stress the word “Hope”. United won at Wembley on Sunday against Aston Villa in the League Cup Final in another classic example of the Referee helping Manchester as much as possible. United beat West Ham in their last game before that 3-0 but lost 3-1 at Everton in their last away game, a result which along with Chelsea’s defeat at home to Manchester City has opened up the title race to Arsenal’s benefit. Still can’t see wolves winning this game but the big question is if they will be playing this fixture next season?
Result Prediction: A Manchester United win
Score Prediction: Wolves 1 Manchester United 3
Match 8: Everton - Hull City: (Sunday March 7th 4pm):
Everton very sadly got beat in Europe by sporting Lisbon & then followed that up with defeat at Spurs last Sunday to stop their late charge towards a top four finish. A shame as I like Everton. Everton as you will know won their last home game 3-1 against Manchester United. Hull should prove easy pickings with their very bad away record this season in the League, in fact they haven’t won away from home yet. A few draws & that’s your lot though their record is much better than Burnley’s which will explain why I think they will finish higher than Burnley come the end of the season. Hull need the points but I’m afraid they won’t be getting any here today.
Result Prediction: Everton to win
Score Prediction: Everton 2 Hull 0
Match 9: Wigan - Liverpool: (Monday March 8th 8pm):
Wigan are in freefall & they won’t be looking forward to playing Liverpool despite Liverpool’s bad away form this season. Liverpool have lost at the following, Chelsea, arsenal, Fulham, Portsmouth, Spurs & Sunderland. They have also only drawn at Blackburn, Stoke & Manchester City. Ha,ha. They should still win this game however as Wigan are on a bad run. They lost their last home game 3-0 to Spurs & followed that up with a 1-0 defeat at Birmingham. They are in serious trouble & could easily get relegated. Liver pool are also in serious trouble as there is a good chance they won’t claim forth place come the end of the season. That should piss off their American owners.
Result Prediction: A Liverpool victory
Score Prediction: Wigan 0 Liverpool 3
That’s all until next weekends fixtures. Good luck.
