Premiership Predictions
Premiership Predictions, Correct Score Weekend Football Tips for 12th & 13th December 2009
Hello & here we are again. Doesn’t time fly when you are having fun. Even a bought of flu can’t stop me writing my predictions for you lucky people. Last weekend I got five out of ten results correct which keeps my average at the 50% mark. My correct results were Arsenal beating Stoke, Manchester United winning at West Ham, Aston Villa beating Hull, Fulham beating Sunderland & my best result prediction of the week, Wolves Beating Bolton. I came close on a couple of correct score, i.e., Villa beating Hull 3-0 when I said 3-1 & Arsenal beating Stoke 2-0 when I had said 2-1 (Arsenal’s leaky defence not helping me this time). I was very unlucky with the Everton - Spurs game as I had predicted a Spurs Victory by 2-1 but Everton scored a late second goal & then Spurs missed a last minute penalty to win the game & therefore deny me a correct result prediction as well. I didn’t think Chelsea would lose at Manchester City as well but they did. “Get on with it” I hear you say. So I will. Good luck for this week & see you all next weekend.
Match 1: Birmingham - West Ham: (Saturday 3pm):
Birmingham are on a really good run. They won at Wigan last Saturday to extend their unbeaten run to six games, four of them victories. They are now in danger of getting a nose bleed as they are up to the dizzy heights of 8th place in the table. Amazingly they are only three points below Liverpool which says a lot about both teams season. Could this run be connected with the new owners taking over or could it be a case of the old owners leaving at last? Who knows? West Ham meanwhile got thrashed easily by Manchester United (Just as I predicted) & are now only one point above Wolves in the drop zone as they beat Bolton to close the gap. West Ham have been in this position before, notably last season but last season they recovered well in the 2nd half of the season to finish mid table. Will they do that this season? Only time will tell? I predict that Birmingham’s run will continue with a victory mainly because of West Ham;s very leaky defence.
Result Prediction: Birmingham to win
Score Prediction: Birmingham 3 West Ham 1
Match 2: Bolton - Manchester City: (Saturday 3pm):
Manchester City ended their long run of unbeaten drawn games to beat Chelsea at Home last weekend. A great result which came on the back of their 3-0 League Cup victory over Arsenal to put them in the Semi Finals of a major cup competition since 1981 (I think?). They came from behind to beat Chelsea which showed a lot of courage in my view. City are now 6th, only two points behind Spurs in 4th place. Along with Villa, it is going to be a very interesting battle between these clubs for the 4th Champions League place, err, I mean European Cup. Bolton are having a really bad run as I pointed out last week and are now with their defeat at Wolves (again, a Result I predicted) 2nd from Bottom. They are in real danger of being relegated & to be frank with the style of football they play I won’t miss them but it will be hard on their fans If they go down. They have now only picked up one point from their last five games & this coupled with the bad start they made to the season has placed them where they deserve to be in the table. Can’t see them getting much from this game after Manchester City’s last two results. I really think it depends on which Manchester City turns up at Bolton, the side that has just beat Arsenal & Chelsea or the one that has just drawn with Hull & Burnley in recent games. I think the side from last weekend.
Result Prediction: Manchester City to win.
Score Prediction: Bolton 1 Manchester City 3
Match 3: Burnley - Fulham: (Saturday 3pm)
Burnley lost last Saturday at Portsmouth, a very disappointing result which could yet have a difference come the end of the season. Their home form is still good though as they have only lost the once (to Wigan). Last time out at home they got a very good point in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa. They do need a win though as they are only four points above Wolves in 18th place. If their home form was to start failing then they would soon be in a relegation fight, which is pretty much what happened to Hull last season after they had a great start. Fulham meanwhile are having another good season under Roy Hodgson. They are 8thin the table & still in with a good chance of qualifying into the next round of the UEFA Cup. They are unbeaten in their last three league games which admittedly have all been at home. They lost their last away game at Birmingham 1-0 & to be honest I think they will lose at Burnley as well as their away form is not as strong as their impressive home form. They haven’t won away since their opening day victory at Portsmouth. They have even managed to lose at Wolves. On the plus side they have managed draws at Manchester City, Wigan & West Ham. A Close home victory for Burnley.
Result Prediction: Burnley to win (just)
Score Prediction: Burnley 2 Fulham 1
Match 4: Chelsea - Everton: (Saturday 3pm):
Chelsea lost at Manchester City last weekend which with Manchester United’s win at West Ham cut their lead at the top to just two points. They need to get back to winning ways & this is as good a game as any to get three points in as Everton are in big decline. Everton have now only won once in their last nine League games which by my book is relegation form. However, they did well last week in coming from two nil down to draw with Spurs but nearly threw it away when giving a last minute penalty away. Luckily for them Spurs failed to take their chance. I really can’t see Everton getting anything from this game & so this fixture must prove won of my easier games this season to predict.
Result Prediction: Chelsea to win
Score Prediction: Chelsea 3 Everton 0
Match 5: Hull - Blackburn: (Saturday 3pm):
Hull’s recent good run came to an end last Saturday with defeat at Aston Villa. There was also another blow for them as their midfielder Jimmy Bullard will be out for at least 8 weeks following injury in that defeat. Hull won their last home game 3-2 against free falling Everton & they need to win this game to keep themselves away from the struggle at the bottom end of the table. Blackburn meanwhile are playing the type of football you wouldn’t open your room curtains for if they were playing in your garden. This was proved by a dreadful game last weekend against Liverpool when they gained a point in a 0-0 draw. However, their results are good as they now lie in 12th position in the table, a place they will probably end up come the end of the season. Not a good game but hull to nick the three points.
Result Prediction: Victory for Hull in a low scoring game
Score prediction: Hull 1 Blackburn 0
Match 6: Manchester United - Aston Villa: (Saturday 5.30pm):
Manchester United closed the gap on Chelsea to two points with their empathic victory at Struggling West Ham last weekend. Coupled with their impressive victory away in Europe as well they are getting back on form. Depressing. Villa are in good form themselves having beat Hull City last Saturday & they have now only lost once in their last 11 games which has also included a run to the League Cup Semi finals where they stand a great chance of reaching the final as they play Blackburn over two legs. I think that United will win this & this is the type of game that the referee usually takes a hand for the home side. A close game but United just edging it.
Result Prediction: Manchester United to win .
Score Prediction: Manchester United 2 Aston Villa 1
Match 7: Stoke - Wigan : (Saturday: 12.45pm):
We all know what happened to Wigan in their last away game as they lost 9-1 at Aston Villa. They recovered well to beat Sunderland 1-0 the following game but went down 2-3 at home last Saturday to Birmingham. To say Wigan are difficult to predict this season is really stating the Bloody obvious. One week they beat Chelsea, then they get beat 4-0 at Portsmouth & then become the only side to win at Burnley so far. Go figure. Stoke are having a good season and have improved on last season as I thought they would. Last Saturday they lost rather easily at Arsenal. Their previous home game they beat Portsmouth 1-0. Stoke are hard to beat but don’t score many goals but all credit to them. They are one of the founder members of the football League & yes there was life before the Premiership media people. I think Stokes excellent home form will win them this game but with Wigan you can never be to sure can you?
Result Prediction: A Stoke win
Score Prediction: Stoke 2 Wigan 0
Match 8: Sunderland - Portsmouth: (Saturday 3pm):
Sunderland’s home form is great but their away form is crap. They lost again last weekend at Fulham (1-0) after losing to Wigan away the week before, again 1-0. This is in complete contrast to their home form where they have only lost once & that was to Chelsea in their opening home game. They beat Arsenal 1-0 in their last home game to further back this up &I expect them to continue their home form in this game. Portsmouth managed a win against Burnley last Saturday to record only their third win of the season. Have they turned the corner? No. A home win for Sunderland.
Result Prediction: Sunderland to win
Score Prediction: Sunderland 3 Portsmouth 1
Match 9: Spurs - Wolves: (Saturday 3pm):
After beating Wigan 9-1 in their last home game spurs have managed two draws on the road since. The point at Villa two weeks ago was a point well gained but last Sunday they should have beaten Everton after racing into a two goal lead mid way through the second half. Even after they had allowed Everton to draw level with them they still had a chance deep into stoppage time but they failed to take the penalty awarded for them. Many more lapses like this & they will be out of the running for a top four place come the end of the season. They should however win this game. Wolves managed only their third win of the season after they beat Bolton last Saturday. They are still in the relegation places though. A home win as Wolves have only won one away game so far (big surprise, it was at Wigan).
Result Prediction: Spurs to win
Score Prediction: Spurs 3 Wolves 1
Match 10: Liverpool - Arsenal: (Sunday 4pm):
As we all know Liverpool are in freefall but I think their manager is doing a great Job. Keep him there, please. Liverpool could only manage a draw a average Blackburn last time out & this result sums up their season so far, i.e., crap. They lost at home in the week to Fiorentina 2-1 to confirm their rapid decline in not only Europe but the Premiership as well. Liverpool are looking very much like they won’t make a UEFA Cup place let alone a Champions League one. Arsenal also lost in Europe in the week but they played a weakened side after they had already qualified from their group. This game was a 4-4 draw at the tail end of the season. It was a result that more or less screwed up Liverpool’s Title chances. Arsenal should have won but their suspect defence let them down again. Liverpool are too weak this season to outscore Arsenal this time out (I Hope). An away win.
Result Prediction: Arsenal to win
Score Prediction: Liverpool 1 Arsenal 3
That’s it for this week boys & girls. See you next week.
