Premiership Predictions
Premiership Predictions & Correct Score Football Tips for 26th & 27th of Jan 2010
Best Predicted result of the previous week: “Arsenal beating Bolton at home 4-2 after I had said that Bolton would cause them problems which is what they did” & “Reading beating Burnley in the FA Cup”
Hello again everyone. Out of the three premiership games I predicted (it was a FA Cup weekend) I correctly predicted two correct results. These were Arsenal beating Bolton at home to go top of the table, all be it briefly until Saturday & Manchester United beating Hull Convincingly. My one incorrect result was Liverpool beating Spurs at home. In the FA Cup this weekend I correctly predicted 5 results and got one correct score. The correct score was Chelsea winning 2-0 at Preston. I was only a couple of minutes away from getting the correct score in the Villa Brighton game but Brighton nicked a late second consolation goal to ruin that score. This also happened in the Wolves Crystal Palace game with Wolves getting a second very late goal to draw 2-2 after I had predicted a 2-1 win to Crystal palace. Leeds also scored a very late penalty goal to draw at Spurs 2-2 after I had predicted a Spurs win. Leeds penalty was in the 96th minute. Such is the luck of football predicting. Let’s hope the replays go my way in terms of results. Onwards to Tuesday’s & Wednesday’s Premiership games with eight games over the two days which is more or less a full programme. Good luck.
Match 1: Bolton - Burnley: (Tuesday January 26th 8pm):
Bolton had a good cup win against Sheffield United on Saturday & are beginning to show early promise under new manager Owen Coyle. They gave Arsenal a real fright last week by taking a 2-0 early first half lead only to eventually lose 4-2. They are still in the relegation zone but I am beginning to think that they will escape. This is a massive game for both sides as Burnley are in freefall & their boards lack of courage at backing Owen Coyle in the transfer market is one of the reasons he left. Their appointment of former Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian laws is a very bad appointment & as I have said earlier I think he will take them down. I also think that Bolton will be one of the teams that will benefit from their decline. As we all know Burnley have a dreadful away record & that was born out by their defeat at Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday as I predicted. Another away defeat for Burnley I’m afraid & a certain amount of revenge for Owen Coyle though I am sure he won’t see it like that.
Result Prediction: Bolton to win
Score Prediction: Bolton 2 Burnley 1
Match 2: : Portsmouth - West Ham: (Tuesday 26th January 7.45pm):
West ham won the return fixture 2-0 on Boxing day which was a massive victory for them. Since then Portsmouth have only won in the FA Cup beating Coventry after a replay and Sunderland on Saturday. This is virtually unimportant to them as they are in such a pickle at the bottom of the table that they need to start winning soon in order to try & stay up. I don’t think they will. West Ham have new owners in David Sullivan & Co. They will hopefully bring new confidence to West Ham as they need it in order to avoid relegation. West Ham gained a very useful draw at Aston Villa in their last game & now that they are out of the FA Cup will be hoping that they can start to climb away from the bottom end of the table. I think that Portsmouth are in such a bad state both on & off the field that they will go down & west Ham’s victory in this game will help to push them down. How not to run a club Part 78.
Result Prediction: An away win for the Hammers
Score Prediction: Portsmouth 1 West Ham 2
Match 3: Tottenham - Fulham: (Tuesday 26th January 7.45pm):
Tottenham were a tad unlucky on Saturday as they conceded a late goal to Leeds to draw their FA Cup game 2-2. The 96th minute is a very bad time to concede a goal & that’s what they did. They should win the replay though. Over Christmas These two sides played out a 0-0 draw which was a good point for both sides. Spurs need to get back to winning ways as they drew their last game at home 0-0 with Hull & then went & lost at Liverpool last Wednesday 2-0. Because of the way Liverpool have been playing this season Spurs will have felt that they should have gained at least a point beforehand but alas it was not to be. Fulham won at Accrington Stanley 3-1 in the FA Cup on Saturday despite Accrington bringing the score back to 1-1 at half time. However, their away form is not good & they haven’t won away in the league since their opening day victory at Portsmouth. They have drawn a few games though, including, West Ham & Manchester City. They have lost their last two away games at Stoke & Blackburn & to be honest I think they will lose this game at Spurs to make it three away defeats on the Bounce.
. Result Prediction: Tottenham to win
Score Prediction: Tottenham 3 Fulham 1
Match 4: Wolves - Liverpool: (Tuesday 26th January 7.45pm):
Wolves are on a bad run & haven’t won in the league since they beat Burnley at home just before Christmas. They lost at home to Wigan last time out in the league but did recover on Saturday to draw at home with Crystal Palace in the Cup, even though they left it late to get their second goal to make the final score 2-2. Liverpool have started to pick up in the league & they started to move up the table with a 2-0 win over Spurs last Wednesday. To be honest Liverpool’s home form isn’t that bad, it is their away form that is crap as they have lost five games as well a bad draws at Blackburn & Stoke. Last time out away they could only draw at midtable Stoke, a side they should be beating if they are as good as their part time support thinks they are. Guess what lads? You are not as good as you think you are. An away win despite all their problems & the fact that Wolves are playing really bad at the present time.
Result Prediction: A Liverpool win.
Score Prediction: Wolves 0 Liverpool 2
Match 5: Aston Villa - Arsenal: (Wednesday 27th January 7.45pm):
Having gone top of the table for the first time this season you would think that Arsenal would have been ready for Stoke away on Sunday? No chance. A very bad 3-1 defeat resulted in some strange team selections by the Arsenal manager but to be honest I don’t blame him as the Way Stoke play he probably didn’t want half his team out with long term injuries. Villa had a very straight forward victory over Brighton on Saturday to book themselves a place in the 5th round of the cup. As they have now reached the League cup final as well the question has to be asked if their cup runs will affect their push for a 4th place finish in the league? I think it will as their form is already beginning to drop as proved with defeats to Arsenal & Liverpool & a draw at home with West ham. Arsenal need to bounce back to get back on form after the disappointment of Saturday’s cup defeat but I think both sides will cancel each other out. A score draw.
Result Prediction: A score draw
Score prediction: Aston Villa 1 Arsenal 1
Match 6: Blackburn - Wigan: (Wednesday January 27th 8pm):
Blackburn are out of both cups but at least they went out in style of the League cup semi Final last Week losing 6-4 on the night in a very crazy game. They were 2-0 up at one point but alas the sending off of one of their players before half time in conceding a penalty proved the turning point. As Aston Villa knocked them out of the FA Cup as well they will be hoping they don’t play them soon. Wigan managed to come back from 2-0 down at Notts County in the cup on Saturday to draw 2-2. They should win the replay. Wigan have a crap away form this season as proved by some very heavy defeats at Portsmouth, Manchester United & of course Spurs where they lost 9-1. I think they will lose this time as well but not as heavily as other away games.
Result Prediction: Blackburn to win
Score Prediction: Blackburn 2 Wigan 1
Match 7: Chelsea - Birmingham: (Wednesday January 27th 7.45pm):
Chelsea are back on form as proved by their 7-2 thrashing of Sunderland in their last league game. They are also though to the next round of the FA Cup after a 2-0 win away at Preston north end of the Championship (as I Predicted). Chelsea should go back to the top of the table with victory in this game despite playing a Birmingham side that are having the type of run that their fans must be constantly pinching themselves to see if it real. Birmingham had a excellent win at Everton on Saturday in the FA Cup. This was great win as Everton were on a very good run of form themselves & had just beaten Manchester City in their previous game. However, I feel that Birmingham have to lose at some point & this away game at Chelsea might be a too much for them. A shame.
Result Prediction: A Chelsea win
Score Prediction: Chelsea 2 Birmingham 0
Match 8: Everton - Sunderland: (Wednesday January 27th 8pm):
Both sides were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday, Everton by Birmingham in a game I thought they would at least take to a replay & Sunderland by bottom club Portsmouth which it has to be said was a very bad result. Sunderland lost their last away game in the league 7-2 at Chelsea which confirmed what most people have noticed, I.E. that Sunderland’s away form is bloody bad. Everton were playing well before Saturday & at least have the consolation of still being in the UEFA Cup. I think that Everton will bounce back & win this game to further the pressure on Steve Bruce to sort out their bad away form because if they are not careful the Black Cats could find themselves in a relegation battle.
Result Prediction: An Everton win
Score Prediction: Everton 2 Sunderland 0
That’s until the weekend. Good luck.
