Premiership Predictions & Correct Score Football Tips for 30/01 ~ 03/02/10
Best Predicted result of the previous week: “Arsenal Drawing at Aston Villa“ & “Chelsea ending Birmingham’s long unbeaten run”
Hello again everyone. A very good set of midweek predictions. I correctly predicted 6 out of 8 results correct & also managed 2 correct Scores. The Correct scores were Everton beating Sunderland 2-0 & Blackburn beating Wigan 2-1. My list of correct Results was Arsenal drawing at Aston Villa, Everton beating Sunderland, Bolton beating Burnley, Spurs beating Fulham, Chelsea beating Birmingham City & Blackburn beating Wigan. This keeps my average above 51% for the season so far in terms of correctly Predicted results. Let’s hope for the good run to continue. Good luck everyone.
Match 1: Birmingham City - Spurs: (Saturday January 30th 3pm):
Birmingham (as I predicted) lost for the first time in a long time by losing at Chelsea 3-0. Birmingham’s run has been amazing & their run has taken them from relegation candidates to possible European qualifiers. They had to lose sooner or later & there is no disgrace in them losing at Title contenders Chelsea. The big question now is how they will react to this defeat? Spurs got a much needed win in their bid to end the season in forth place by beating Fulham 2-0 on Tuesday (as I predicted). I think that both sides will cancel each other out in a low scoring score draw. Spurs have not won away at a top ten side this season & that is set to continue.
Result Prediction: A score draw
Score Prediction: Birmingham 1 Spurs 1
Match 2: : Burnley - Chelsea: (Saturday 30th January 5.30pm):
Burnley are in freefall & the last club they needed to plat right now is Chelsea who are bang on form. Burnley lost at Bolton 1-0 on Tuesday, a result which has placed them in the relegation zone, a place I fear they are finish come the end of the season. This I’m afraid is down to Burnley’s board as I have previously mentioned. Chelsea are on fire at present & ended Birmingham’s unbeaten record on Wednesday by winning convincingly 3-0. This had been preceded by a 2-0 win at Preston in the Fa Cup last Saturday after they had thrashed Sunderland 7-2. Chelsea are looking good for the title but we will see. Burnley have only lost once at home this season & that was against fellow strugglers Wigan. Chelsea will be making it two home defeats for the season. To cement their place at the top of the Premiership.
Result Prediction: An away win for Chelsea
Score Prediction: Burnley 0 Chelsea 3
Match 3: Fulham - Aston Villa: (Saturday 30th January 3pm):
Both clubs need a win for slightly different reasons. Villa drew at home with arsenal on Wednesday 0-0, which in itself was not a bad result but as they have now not won for league games it has to be seen as two points dropped. While Villa are doing well in the domestic cups they might be getting distracted in terms of their push for a top four finish. This is a shame as this season is a great opportunity for them to finish forth due to Liverpool’s decline. I fear they might miss the boat so to speak. Villa lost their last away game in the league 3-0 at Arsenal but did win 1-0 at Blackburn in the League cup semi finals. Fulham have not played at home in the league since they drew 0-0 with Spurs. They have beat Swindon at home in the FA Cup however. They have by some quirk of the fixture list played four league away games on the bounce & have lost them all at Chelsea, Stoke, Blackburn & on Tuesday at Spurs. I should point out in fairness that they did win at Accrington Stanley 3-1 in the FA cup on Saturday however. They need a win to stop the rot but I fear they will only get a draw with Villa.
Result Prediction: A Score draw
Score Prediction: Fulham 1 Aston Villa 1
Match 4: Hull City - Wolves: (Saturday 30th January 3pm):
Hull are not playing that badly but are still in the relegation zone. It hasn’t helped that they haven’t played for a couple of weeks while Wolves have. They are out of the cup but are still fighting for their lives in the Premiership. A win here against Wolves in this relegation battle would go a long way to helping them in their bid to stay up. Wolves managed a very good 0-0 draw at home to Liverpool on Tuesday which will have given them some confidence for the months ahead. This game followed their 2-2 draw with Crystal Place in the FA Cup where they only just managed to draw mainly thanks to a late goal. A replay is something they won’t want. A tight game methinks with both sides looking for the three points but I fear it will end in stalemate which will suit Wolves more than Hull. This will be a repeat of the 1-1 draw between the two sides earlier in the season.
Result Prediction: A score draw
Score Prediction: Hull City 1 Wolves 1
Match 5: Liverpool - Bolton: (Saturday 30th January 3pm):
Liverpool could only draw at Wolves 0-0 on Tuesday, a result that summed up their season. They are simply not good enough but despite that they are slowly climbing the table. They are now within a shout of forth place. It would really be bad for football if they were to claim forth place I feel. Bolton got a vital Victory against Burnley on Tuesday which has dragged them out of the relegation zone. They seem to be playing well under new manager Owen Coyle & this game at Liverpool will be a big test for them. Despite Liverpool having a bad season they are getting results at home & have only lost twice at home so far. Last time out they beat Spurs at home which was a good result. I think that Bolton will win this as they are so much more motivated then Liverpool’s players at present. A shock win then but will the Liverpool manager survive it?
Result Prediction: A shock Bolton away win
Score prediction: Liverpool 1 Bolton 2
Match 6: West Ham - Blackburn: (Saturday January 30th 3pm):
Blackburn’s home form is keeping them out of trouble at the bottom end of the table. They beat Wigan 2- 1 on Wednesday to move further away from drop zone. They have only lost twice at home & that was to Manchester City & Spurs. Away it is a different story with some heavy defeats most notably at Arsenal & Chelsea. West ham have new owners & this might help them in their battle against the drop which would be very bad for them financially. They drew at Portsmouth on Tuesday in a game they should have won. A missed opportunity they will feel. They drew at Blackburn early on in the season which in hindsight was a good result. I think West ham will win this game & will also stay up as they have showed signs that they are too good to go down.
Result Prediction: West Ham to win
Score Prediction: West Ham 2 Blackburn 0
Match 7: Wigan - Everton: (Saturday January 30th 3pm):
Everton recovered from their surprise 2-1 defeat to Birmingham in the cup to beat Sunderland on Wednesday. Everton are now picking up in the League & are on a mini unbeaten run in the League. They have claimed some useful results in this run including draws at both Chelsea (3-3) & Arsenal (2-2). They beat Manchester City at home prior to their FA Cup game against Birmingham. Wigan lost again in mid-week, this time away at Blackburn. They are only just above the relegation zone & it will only take a few bad results for them to get in even more trouble than they are. I think they will lose this game to Everton to start a few alarm bells ringing.
Result Prediction: An Everton win
Score Prediction: Wigan 1 Everton 2
Match 8: Arsenal - Manchester United: (Sunday January 31st 4pm):
Arsenal need to win this game if they are to remain realistic title challengers. They lost to the referee (again) at Old Trafford earlier in the season & they will be looking for revenge. Let’s hope the referee let’s them win Fairly. Arsenal bounced back from their surprise FA Cup defeat at Stoke on Saturday to draw a very difficult fixture at Aston Villa 0-0. This was a good result when you consider that Chelsea, Liverpool & Manchester United have all lost to Aston Villa this season. Not Arsenal who have taken four points off the Villa this season. Manchester United have made it to Wembley in the League cup after beating Manchester City 4-3 over two legs. I feel that the League cup is the only trophy that they will win this season as they are a shadow of themselves compared to the last few seasons. A close home win for Arsenal to take them into second place & just behind Chelsea in the table.
Result Prediction: An Arsenal win
Score Prediction: Arsenal 2 Manchester United 1
Match 9: Manchester City - Portsmouth: (Sunday January 31st 1.30pm):
Manchester City will be bitterly disappointed to have lost out on a League cup final appearance after losing at Manchester United 3-1 on Wednesday to go out 4-3 over two legs. Will they recover & beat Bottom club Portsmouth? City are still in the FA Cup having won 4-2 at Scunthorpe last Sunday (as I Predicted). Portsmouth are having a dreadful season & look like going down having won only a handful of games all season. They managed to come from behind & draw with west Ham on Tuesday but it is wins they need not draws. They are however still in the FA Cup having beat freefalling Sunderland 2-1 last Saturday. They now face their deadliest rivals Southampton in round five. I really can’t see Portsmouth getting anything from this game. A Home win for City.
Result Prediction: A Manchester City win
Score Prediction: Manchester City 3 Portsmouth 1
Match 10: Sunderland - Stoke City: (Monday February 1st 8pm):
Sunderland are in freefall & it is their away form that is dragging them into trouble. They are now in a relegation battle. They lost at bottom club Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Saturday & then followed that up with a 2-0 defeat at Everton on Wednesday. They need a win & badly. They face a Stoke City side that is on a good run after some bad defeats either side of the Holiday period. They beat Arsenal last Sunday 3-1 in the FA Cup after drawing at home with Liverpool the week before. I think this game will end up a Stoke win which will add further pressure on Sunderland’s manager Steve Bruce who must be wondering how such a bright start to the first third of the season has turned so bad. A shame because I like Sunderland & their fans.
Result Prediction: A Stoke City away win
Score Prediction: Sunderland 1 Stoke City 2
Match 11: Hull - Chelsea: (Tuesday February 2nd 7.45pm):
This game was postponed due to health & safety tossers around a month ago. In my original prediction I said that Chelsea would win & they weren’t playing as well back then. Chelsea should make it two wins in a few days. They should have won at Burnley on Saturday & will increase their lead at the top to five points with this victory. This will be tough on Hull but then they are keeping a manager who as far as I am concerned will take them down back to the Championship. The added bonus for Hull fans if they go down as I think they will is that they will be ok Financially, err, hang on…not true, oh well.
Result Prediction: Chelsea to win
Score Prediction: Hull 1 Chelsea 3
Match 12: Fulham - Portsmouth: (Wednesday February 3rd 8pm):
Fulham need a win & as I don’t feel that they will have achieved that against Aston Villa on Saturday then this is a perfect game for them to get a very important three points. Despite their bad recent away form Fulham are having a good season. They are still in The FA Cup & Europe . They have also had some very good results at home including a great 3-0 win over Manchester United just before Christmas. Portsmouth are going down & this defeat will confirm what most Portsmouth fans know in that the owners of their club are scum & deserve to be put in court for what they are doing to their club. I feel sorry for Portsmouth fans. A home win for Fulham despite my feelings towards Portsmouth’s flights.
Result Prediction: Fulham to win
Score Prediction: Fulham 2 Portsmouth 0
That’s all until next weekend. Good luck.
