Premiership Predictions
Premiership Predictions, Correct Score Boxing Day Weekend Football Tips for 26th & 27th December 2009
Hello everyone & a merry Christmas to you all. Hope your hangovers are not to bad? I did good on the final weekend of 2009 by getting 6 Results correct out of nine fixtures (Wigan - Bolton being Postponed). My best one was to correctly predict that Portsmouth would beat Liverpool. Liverpool really are in freefall now. I also correctly predicted that Arsenal would beat Hull, Aston Villa would beat Stoke, Wolves would beat Burnley, Manchester City would beat Sunderland & Spurs would beat Blackburn away. I came very close on some correct score lines as well. Let’s hope I can keep my average around 50% for the season in the second half or even push it higher? Good luck for the traditional Boxing day fixtures & I will be back in a couple of days for the next round of fixtures during this busy festive period.
Good luck.
Best Predicted result(s) of the previous week: “Portsmouth beating Liverpool” & “Tottenham being the first side to win at Blackburn since the opening day of the season”
Match 1: Birmingham - Chelsea: (Boxing day 12.45pm):
Birmingham as we all know are on a really good run. Their 1-1 draw at Everton last Sunday now takes their unbeaten run to nine. They are now 7th in the table. An amazing transformation from relegation candidates to European hopefuls. Now comes their most serious test in their great run. Can they beat a Chelsea side that despite being on a bit of a wobble is still a formidable side. Chelsea as already mentioned are on a wobble. They could only draw at West Ham on Sunday & that was only because of a very harsh penalty award in their favour & the referee making Chelsea take the penalty three times!! Who says the big teams get the decisions. With Manchester United losing at Fulham Chelsea’s lead is now extended to four points at the half way stage of the season. Chelsea have now only won once in six games but have only lost the once in that run. A shock win for Birmingham is my prediction.
Result Prediction: A shock Birmingham win
Score Prediction: Birmingham 1 Chelsea 0
Match 2: Burnley - Bolton: (Boxing Day 2pm):
Burnley had a very disappointing result at Wolves in their last game losing 2-0 as I predicted. Their away form is getting worse as they have now gained only one point from their travels in nine games. As a consequence of them only now drawing games at home they have slipped down the table but it has to be pointed out that they have gained good home draws at home with Arsenal & Aston Villa. This is an important game for both sides as Bolton are in the relegation places in 18th place while Burnley are above them by only three points in 14th place. Bolton also have two games in hand on Burnley as well so it is important that Burnley win this game. Bolton’s last game at Wigan was postponed on Monday night so they have lost a bit of ground especially with other sides around them picking up points. I think that Burnley will pick up the vital three points in this game.
Result Prediction: Burnley to win
Score Prediction: Burnley 2 Bolton 1
Match 3: Fulham - Tottenham: (Boxing day 1pm):
Spurs followed up their great 3-0 victory over Manchester City with a very good 2-0 away win at Blackburn who hadn’t lost at home since the opening day of the season (against Manchester City). Spurs still behind Aston Villa in the table in 5th position but they are only two points behind them. If only they hadn’t missed that last minute penalty at Everton. Fulham had a great result against Manchester United in their last game thrashing them 3-0. A lot of people said that Fulham wouldn’t have as good a season as last in the League but that is proving to not be the case. Their home form is very good so far as they have won six games including a victory against Liverpool. Tottenham’s last away game was the 2-0 win at Blackburn. Will they continue that form in this game? I don’t think they will.
Result Prediction: Fulham to win
Score Prediction: Fulham 2 Spurs 1
Match 4: Liverpool - Wolves: (Boxing Day 5.30pm):
Liverpool lost their seventh game in the League on Saturday at Portsmouth & their 11th in all competitions so far this season. Their manager is doing a great job methinks? Like the way the fans blame the board when it is the managers players on the pitch that he has chosen. They are now in 8th place behind Birmingham & just ahead of Fulham. Ha-ha. Wolves got a lot of stick for fielding a changed side at Manchester United the other week but they bounced back to beat Burnley 2-0 which now means that they have won three out of their last four games. With Liverpool playing so badly they must think they have a chance in this game of at least picking up a point but I fear they won’t. A Home win for the reds which won’t have much bearing on their dismal season.
Result Prediction: Liverpool to win (just)
Score Prediction: Liverpool 2 Wolves 1
Match 5: Manchester City - Stoke: (Boxing Day 3pm):
In my point of view the sacking of Mark Hughes as Manchester City manager was a bloody joke. It was done by people who are business men, i.e., tossers. They hide behind expressions such as “It’s only Business” to mask the fact that they are not nice people with any compassion or morals. In Mark Hughes last game City beat Sunderland 4-3. A good way to go out methinks. A new manager usually makes a good start in a new job & expect Roberto Mancini to do just that. City are 6th in the table four points adrift of Tottenham. Obviously a position in the league that warranted a sacking. Yeah, right. Stoke meanwhile were a bit unlucky to lose at Aston Villa in their last game 1-0. Stoke as I have mentioned before this season are having a much better season than last & their manager deserves some sort of award for getting them to the premier league and keeping them there. A home win for city.
Result Prediction: Manchester City to win
Score prediction: Manchester City 3 Stoke 0
Match 6: Sunderland - Everton: (Boxing Day 3pm):
Sunderland need a win. They lost again in their last game, this time away at Manchester City 4-3. Their away form is letting them down. Their home form is good even though they lost to Aston Villa in their last home game. This was only their second home defeat of the season, the other being to Chelsea. Everton just can’t get a win, they could only draw again in their last game, this time at home to Birmingham. They have now drawn their last three league games which hasn’t really improved their league position as they are 15th just two points above the drop zone. A defeat here at Sunderland could see them drop into the bottom three. A position unthinkable at the start of the season. They are playing reasonably well of late but they don’t seem to be getting any breaks. A home win for the “Black Cats”.
Result Prediction: Sunderland to win
Score Prediction: Sunderland 1 Everton 0
Match 7: West Ham - Portsmouth: (Boxing Day 1pm):
West Ham had a very good home draw with Chelsea last Sunday, a draw which they deserved by all accounts. It didn’t help their league position however, as they are still in the bottom three in 19th place on 15 points. They need a win & who better to come and visit you than the only team in the league in a worse position than yourself. Portsmouth managed a great 2-0 win at home to Liverpool last week which I predicted. They are beginning to pick up slowly under their new manager with two successive home wins to their credit now. If they could somehow manage a win at west Ham then they would climb off the bottom of the table for the first time this season. I don’t think they will but they still have hope for the rest of the season, something which under Paul Hart wasn’t going to happen.
Result Prediction: A West Ham win
Score Prediction: West Ham 3 Portsmouth 1
Match 8: Wigan - Blackburn: (Boxing Day 3pm):
Wigan’s game against Bolton on Monday was called off so they will be chomping at the bit to play a game. Wigan as anybody following their results will know have been producing a mixed bag of results to put it mildly this season. They have however only won once since the end of October, a 1-0 win against Sunderland & have slipped down the table to 16th just two points off the relegation places. Blackburn’s away form is pretty crap as they have only managed one away win & that was at struggling Bolton. In a very tight table they are only one point better off than Wigan but three places above them. A very evenly matched game would be the suggested outcome of this game. I agree, so it’s home win for the latics.
Result Prediction: Wigan to win
Score Prediction: Wigan 2 Blackburn 0
Match 9: Arsenal - Aston Villa: (Sunday 1.30pm):
Arsenal won their last game 3-0 against Hull make up ground on the big two above them as Manchester United lost rather surprisingly at Fulham & Chelsea could only draw at West Ham. Both clubs are on good runs, especially Villa who have four on the bounce now, including an impressive win at Manchester United. They haven’t lost since the 4th November when they rather unluckily lost at West Ham. Arsenal meanwhile have recovered well since the back to back defeats at Manchester City (League Cup) and at home to Chelsea. They are now unbeaten in four League games including a good 2-1 win at Liverpool. Both Clubs are locked on 35 points with Arsenal having the slight upper hand in goal difference & a game in hand. They are both only two points behind Manchester United in second place & either club could leapfrog United at the end of the days games. A close game as their position in the table would suggest but I am going to go for a narrow home win.
Result Prediction: Arsenal to win
Score Prediction: Arsenal 2 Aston Villa 1
Match 10: Hull - Manchester United: (Sunday 4pm):
Manchester United had a surprise 3-0 defeat at Fulham which caught everybody off guard. They are now only above Arsenal & Villa by two points. United are not firing on all cylinders this season for various reasons. They have lost five games already this season which to be honest is a surprise but along with Chelsea’s faltering form has opened up the title race. This is good for Premiership football. They should however, win this game at Hull who have slipped back down the table after a good little mini run. They got beat 3-0 at Arsenal last Saturday and have now not won in three games or scored. Their last home win was a very boring 0-0 draw with Blackburn, so you suspect that if they can’t beat Blackburn at home with their crap away record then they don’t stand much chance against a side like Manchester United. You would be right. An United win.
Result Prediction: Manchester United to win
Score Prediction: Hull 0 Manchester United 2
That’s all for a couple of days. Have a good Christmas everyone.
