Premiership Predictions
Premiership Predictions, Correct Score Weekend Football Tips for 17 ~ 18/10/09
Hello everyone & welcome to this weekends premiership predictions after a weeks gap due to World Cup qualifiers. Before I start I thought you would like to see the breakdown in percentage terms of my predictions for the “Premiership”& “Internationals” since I began at the end of last season. I have not bothered to do the Champions League because I have only Predicted 5 games so far and as I got four out of five I thought it would give an unfair picture.
Premiership:
| Matches Predicted: | Correct Results: | Incorrect Results: | Correct Score Lines: |
|---|---|---|---|
| 56 | 31 | 25 | 7 |
This gives a correct result rate of 55%
Internationals:
| Matches Predicted: | Correct Results: | Incorrect Results: | Correct Score Lines: |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17 | 11 | 6 | 2 |
This gives a correct result rate of 64%
And now onto this weekends fixtures. Last time out I correctly predicted four out of ten results, the highlight being Portsmouth’s victory at Wolves. My other correct results was Chelsea’s victory over Liverpool, Arsenal’s victory over Blackburn & Burnley’s victory over Birmingham. Unfortunately there was a large amount of draws (5) which screwed up my predictions for Manchester United (I expect no favours from them), West Ham, Stoke, Spurs & Manchester City. Four out of ten then was my lowest percentage of the season. The average is still above 50% though (See above).
Onwards to this weekends fixtures:-
1. Arsenal - Birmingham City: (Saturday 3pm):
This is one of the easiest games to predict this weekend. It is a matter of how many Arsenal will score. Last time out they beat Blackburn 6-2. Birmingham lost 2-1 at Burnley. Both results I correctly guessed. Birmingham as you will know have a tight defence but if Burnley can score two against them then logic must dictate that Arsenal will score more than two against them. I don’t feel there will be a repeat of the result against Blackburn but Arsenal will still win. Might take a while to brake down the Birmingham defence though.
Result Prediction: Arsenal to win
Score Prediction: Arsenal 3 Birmingham City 0
2. Aston Villa - Chelsea: (Saturday 12.45pm):
A difficult one to predict this fixture. Chelsea beat Liverpool in their previous fixture to recover from their first defeat of the season against Wigan. Villa meanwhile drew at home with Manchester City after they had lost their own unbeaten run at Blackburn the week before. Villa have done well in recent years against Chelsea at Villa Park. Last season Chelsea won at Villa Park (1-0) but had failed to do so in their previous five visits, losing1 & drawing 4. It looks like it will be a draw but I am going to stick my neck out & say that Chelsea are going to win a tight game to keep them top of the table.
Result Prediction: Chelsea to win a tight game
Score Prediction: Aston Villa 1 Chelsea 2
3. Everton - Wolves: (Saturday 3pm):
Wolves had a dreadful result last week against Portsmouth & I can see that result affecting their morale. Everton meanwhile drew with Stoke at home. I can’t really see Wolves getting a result out of this fixture especially as Everton are on a good run at present being unbeaten in their last 6 (four in the League) & only losing 1 of their last eight (in all competitions) . Wolves have managed only two league wins so far & one win on penalties against Swindon in the League cup. They have lost their last three games including a 5-2 defeat at Sunderland in their last away game. Hard to see anything other than a Everton victory methinks.
Result Prediction: Everton to win
Score Prediction: Everton 3 Wolves 1
4. Manchester United - Bolton: (Saturday 3pm):
The biggest shock here is that this game is kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday!!! How will their part time supporters be able to see the game? Bolton drew with Spurs in their last game and won away at Birmingham in their previous away game, meanwhile Manchester United managed to get a draw at home to Sunderland with a last minute goal (the referee headed in a corner taken by the Linesman). Despite the fact that Bolton’s dislike of United goes way back to the 1950’s (long before everybody else learnt to dislike them) I can’t see them getting a result in this one. Sunderland surprised me by getting a draw at Old Trafford but they are a better side than Bolton so a home win to the media’s favourite side.
Result Prediction: Manchester United to win
Score Prediction: Manchester United 2 Bolton 0
5. Portsmouth - Tottenham: (Saturday 3pm):
The return of Harry Rednap to Portsmouth where he did really well in getting them to the Premiership & winning the FA Cup for them. Portsmouth managed their first win of the season in their last game against Wolves to end a 7 game losing run. Spurs meanwhile drew at Bolton. Spurs have only lost two games so far & they were against Chelsea & Manchester United so I can’t really see them losing this game. Portsmouth’s defence is just too bad to be able to cope with Spurs strong attack. An away victory for Spurs to just about put the final nail in Paul Harts coffin.
Result Prediction: An away win for Spurs
Score Prediction: Portsmouth 1 Spurs 3
6. Stoke City - West Ham: (Saturday 3pm):
Both sides haven’t won in a few games so both are due a victory. West Ham haven’t won since the opening day of the season when they won at Wolves. They need a victory more than Stoke who have won twice this season but have gained three useful draws on their travels including the one all draw at Everton in their last game. To be fair to Stoke they have played both Chelsea & Manchester United in recent weeks so their results thus far are a lot better than West Ham’s. Can’t help but feel that West Ham are coming close to a relegation battle this season with their current results. A home win to cement that feeling.
Result Prediction: Home win for Stoke City
Score Prediction: Stoke 2 West Ham 0
7. Sunderland - Liverpool: (Saturday 3pm):
Bloody hell, Liverpool are playing on a Saturday at 3pm as well. Is there a TV strike?(I wish - Ed). I have managed to predict correctly every single Liverpool fixture this season so far apart from their defeat to Aston Villa (I predicted a draw), therefore you would expect me to get this result right. Liverpool are being found out as their results confirm, if they come up against a good side then they tend to struggle, so therefore the question is if Sunderland are a good side? Their draw at Sunderland would suggest they are turning into a good side as well as their other results this season. I am going to go for a home win which of course means it will be a draw as I have pointed out that I have had a good prediction run with Liverpool so far…such is life.
Result Prediction: Home win for Sunderland
Score Prediction: Sunderland 2 Liverpool 1
8. Blackburn - Burnley: (Sunday 1pm):
This is the big one in East Lancashire. This is the first time they have met in the Top Flight for a very long time. They have of course met in cup ties & Division two action in the last ten years or so. Despite this the rivalry between the two sets of supporters is still intense. Blackburn won their last Home game 2-1 against Aston Villa which was a good result but got hammered at Arsenal in their last game. Burnley are playing well at home (they have won all their home games) but away they haven’t even scored a goal. I feel that they will score at Blackburn on Sunday but will still lose which is a shame as I don’t like Blackburn’s style of football in comparison to Burnley’s. Burnley beat Birmingham at home last game out but got hammered at Spurs 5-0 in their last away game. Blackburn’s style of football will be too much for Burnley I feel & so therefore I am going for a home win. The return fixture at Turf Moor will be a different story however…
Result Prediction: Blackburn to win a close game
Score Prediction: Blackburn Rovers 2 Burnley 1
9. Wigan - Manchester City: (Sunday 4pm)
Last time out at home Wigan shocked me & everyone else (inc “Mark Lawrenson”) by beating Chelsea 3-1, a result they fully deserved. The following week they went and got beat by Hull 2-1, again a result they fully deserved. It seems to me that since the last third of last season Wigan’s players have being by & large under performing both for Steve Bruce & their current Manager Roberto Martinez. This I expect to Continue against Manchester City who have had an excellent start to the season & have only lost once, that being the infamous defeat at Old Trafford. With their exciting forward line I really can’t see Wigan’s defence holding them. An easy away win for City but by how many goals?
Result Prediction: Away win for Manchester City
Score Prediction: Wigan 0 Manchester City 3
10. Fulham - Hull City: (Monday 8pm):
Hull surprised me by beating Wigan last time out which gave them their second win of the season. Fulham had a very useful away draw at West Ham in their last game & were only denied all three points by a last minute goal by West Ham. Fulham could also consider themselves unlucky in their last home game when they went down 1-0 to Arsenal but were much the better side with Arsenal’s goalkeeper the man of the match (for me). Hull won this fixture 1-0 last season which was their only victory in their last 22 games. This season they have struggled again & I can’t see them getting anything from this game. An easy victory for Fulham to drag them towards midtable which is where they should be.
Result Prediction: Home win for Fulham
Score Prediction: Fulham 2 Hull City 0
That’s it for this weekend. See you all next week & good luck whoever your team is.
