PREMIERSHIP PREDICTIONS
Premiership Predictions & Correct Scores for the Weekend of April 10th/11th 2010
by Doug Martin
Best Predicted result(s) for previous Weekend: “Stoke beating Hull, Fulham beating Wigan & Arsenal beating Wolves Closely as I said.
Hello everyone. Sorry for the lateness in this weekends article being posted but I have had a very heavy attack of the flu this week which has left me bed ridden since Monday. Alas, I have risen to keep you all informed in everything football. You lucky people, I think.
Last weekend I only managed four out of ten correct results. These were Stoke beating Hull, Fulham beating Wigan, Arsenal Beating Wolves & Manchester City beating Burnley away. This is hopefully only a slight dip in my prediction average as I still however have an average above 50% for the season.
Until next week. Good luck.
Match 1: Hull - Burnley: (Saturday April 10th: 3pm):
Burnley are looking doomed after their 6-1 thrashing by Manchester City on Saturday. Good appointment in Brian laws Lads? I said that Brian Laws would take Burnley down & that is what he is doing. I can only presume that the Burnley board doesn’t know their football? Hang on a minute we are talking about football directors aren’t we? Burnley have only won once under laws & that was against West Ham. They are now odds on favorites to go down along with Portsmouth as they are 2nd from bottom four points adrift from safety. It is only the sides above & their inability to put more points on the board that has made them only the 4 points adrift. Hull meanwhile lost at Stoke (as I said they would). They are only one point behind West Ham & they will therefore see this game as a massive six pointer in their bid to stay up in the Premiership for another season. Hull managed to win their last home game against Fulham & to be honest their home form has been good this season with victories against Wigan, Stoke, Everton, Manchester City, Bolton & of course Fulham in their last home game. It is their away form that has let them down as they haven’t managed a single victory away. A home win & another nail in Burnley’s coffin.
Result Prediction: A Hull win
Score Prediction: Hull 2 Burnley 0
Match 2: West Ham - Sunderland: (Saturday April 10th: 5pm):
This is a very important game for West Ham & one they need to win. They managed a very useful draw at Everton on Sunday last in a 2-2 draw that stopped a run of defeats. They are still 4th from bottom in the table but have gained a point on Hull because they lost at Stoke on the Saturday. Still very tight down at the bottom though. Sunderland played very well in beating Spurs 3-1 last Saturday & to be honest the score line should have been more in Sunderland’s favor. Sunderland have a very poor away record which was proved by their 3-0 defeat at Liverpool in their last away game. Despite their bad away record Sunderland’s impressive home run has carried them to 13th in the table & 11 points away from the drop zone. They should be safe for another season in the Premiership. Because of their bad away record I think they will lose at West Ham who will be much cheered by their performance at Everton.
Result Prediction: A much needed West Ham win
Score Prediction: West Ham 2 Sunderland 1
Match 3: Blackburn- Manchester United: (Sunday April 11th: 1.30pm):
United will be gutted to have gone out in Europe on Wednesday night, especially after leading 3-0 just before half time. How they react will be interesting. Having also lost at home to Chelsea last weekend as well United are in danger of ending the season with only the League Cup which will be deemed as a bad return for the season. It seems to me that the “Asset stripping” of their American owners is beginning to bite on the pitch where of course it matters & not the boardroom. I feel really sorry for the real Manchester United fans who attend games as they are seeing their club being attacked by some American scumbags who have no morals. Blackburn are safe for another season in the Premiership so might take their foot off the peddle now but it is United they are playing. Blackburn got a rare away point last Saturday in a 0-0 draw at Portsmouth but it is their home form that has been impressive this season with only two defeats so far. They managed a 1-1 draw with Chelsea a few games ago so I think they will do the same with United.
Result Prediction: A score draw
Score Prediction: Blackburn 1 Manchester United 1
Match 4: Liverpool - Fulham: (Sunday April 11th: 3pm):
Liverpool should win this game as their home form has been very good since they lost at home to Arsenal 2-1 before Christmas. They beat Sunderland very easily 3-0 in their last home game & followed that up with a 4-1 victory over Benfica to march on in the UEFA Cup. Europe is of course their last chance of glory this season. After drawing 1-1 at Birmingham last Sunday Liverpool look to be out of the running for a 4th place finish in the League meaning that they will not be playing in the Champions League next season. They now face a Fulham side who are also still in Europe themselves after a 1-0 away win on Thursday. Can’t really see a repeat of the 3-1 Fulham home victory earlier in the season. A home win & one of my easier games to predict of late. It is just a matter of how many Liverpool will score methinks.
Match Prediction: Liverpool to win easily
Score Prediction: Liverpool 4 Fulham 0
Match 5: Manchester City - Birmingham: (Sunday April 11th: 4pm):
Another home banker this one as far as I am concerned. City have only lost the once at home this season & that was a few matches ago to Everton in a 2-0 defeat. City have recovered from that defeat to beat Wigan 3-1 at home & last Saturday thrashed relegation bound Burnley 6-1 away. City are now favorites to finish in 4th place come the end of the season. They now face a Birmingham side who have only managed 1 away win in the League since the new year & that was against bottom club Portsmouth. Despite the fact they have had a good season I think Birmingham are beginning to tire away from home & this game will see another away defeat for them. Next season could be interesting for them & will be fun to see how they do.
Match Prediction: City to win
Score Prediction: Manchester City 3 Birmingham 1
Match 6: Wolves - Stoke: (Sunday April 11th: 12pm):
Wolves are 14th in the table but only 5 points ahead of the drop zone which makes three points in this game vital in their bid to stay up. They can count them selves unlucky to have lost to such a late goal at Arsenal last week (94th Minute) as well as the sending off. They managed to draw at Stoke earlier in the season 2-2 after being 2-0 down at half time which of course was a good result for them. Stoke won their last away game at West Ham which was their third away win of the season after wins at Spurs & Portsmouth. They have however drawn a few games away from home this season at Blackburn, Birmingham, Wigan, Bolton, Burnley & Sunderland. You could argue that after their home win against Hull last season that they might relax a bit because they are almost certainly safe from relegation this season but I think not. I think this will be a very close game & Wolves will just sneak it. Both sides don’t score many goals so this should be a low scoring game.
Result Prediction: Wolves to win (Just)
Score Prediction: Wolves 2 Stoke 1
That’s all for this weekend everybody.
Good luck
