Spurs v Everton Prediction:

Tottenham have the chance to move level on points with Manchester United on Wednesday evening as they take on an Everton side looking to kickstart their Premier League campaign.

The chances of Tottenham challenging for the title has been much discussed in the last few weeks and many have pinpointed this fixture as they one in which they play catch-up with the two Manchester clubs.

They have been waiting for this game in hand for a long time after all. In fact, this was supposed to be the first fixture of the season for these two, but it was postponed due to the London riots going on at the time.

Therefore, as much as people have been talking about Spurs challenging for the title, it has always been with a victory over Everton in mind.

There is no reason why this shouldn’t be the case of course. Harry Redknapp’s men have been excellent all season and even if they might not be playing the flowing football of a month or so ago, they are still picking up results.

Superstitious Spurs fans will want to avoid saying that this is a trend of a title winning team, but it is definitely an encouraging sign. The 1-0 win over West Brom earlier this month for example was a classic case of ‘job done’.

They will want more of the same on Wednesday of course. Many first-team players had a rest during the FA Cup win over Cheltenham, so they will want to come back in and start another season defining run.

As for Everton, well they have had a hugely frustrating season. The fact they sit 11th – in no danger of relegation, but no immediate threat to the top eight – probably summarises their campaign quite nicely.

Their main two problems have been injuries and lack of goals. Not exactly a winning combination if you want to kick on in the Premier League.

The most recent casualty is central defender Phil Jagielka. He faces several weeks out with a medial ligaments injury, while the Toffees have only scored five goals in their last seven Premier League games.

One of these came courtesy of goalkeeper Tim Howard too, so there is no doubt they need to find their form in front of goal.

Whether the likes of loan signing Landon Donovan can help inspire this at White Hart Lane remains to be seen. It will certainly be tough, but the fact that they could go 9th with victory gives them plenty of motivation.

Overall though, Tottenham know the importance of this fixture in the way their season is going to shape up and for this reason, they should have more than enough for the points.
