Union Rags targets Breeders Cup Juvenile
Union Rags goes into the Breeders' Cup Juvenile as favourite having remained unbeaten in his opening two starts of his two-year old career this season.
The Michael Matz-trained runner opened his account in August when winning the Grade Two Three Chimneys Saratoga Special Stakes by over seven lengths. He then followed that up with an equally impressive performance in taking the Grade One Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park by five lengths earlier this month. Those following the onlinebetting will have been impressed.
Despite only having two racecourse starts, Union Rags goes into the Breeders' Cup meeting with high hopes and is the one they have to beat over the trip of 8.5 furlongs for two year-olds.
Creative Cause has done little wrong this season in his three starts, just the one second place finish has spoiled his unbeaten record as a juvenile. Mike Harrington's runner produced a smart performance recently at Santa Anita to suggest he goes to Churchill Downs with every chance amd the Breeders Cup betting reflects this.
Hansen's two appearances on racecourse so far have both ended in victories with a combined margin of 25 and a quarter lengths. He opened his account in September with a 12 length victory to announce himself to the racing world. The win was then followed up in the Kentucky Juvenile Cup where he was even more impressive when winning the race by 13 lengths. He does though travel to the Breeders' Cup meeting having never raced on dirt before, therefore there is question marks about his ability to handle the surface next month.
Last year's winner of this race Uncle Mo goes into this year's meeting as the favourite for the Breeders' Cup Classic this time around.
