Willie Mullins has become the fastest trainer to reach 100 winners in a season in Ireland.
The 55-year old brought up the landmark on Wednesday when Soll won a beginners chase race at Down Royal. The 2/5 favourite finished over four lengths ahead of his rivals in a confident ride by champion jockey Ruby Walsh, leading from start to finish.
It has been a pleasing few days for Mullins after Hurricane Fly won the Irish Champion Hurdle for the second consecutive year at Leopardstown on Sunday. It was the eight-year-old's opening run of this campaign as he blew away a high quality field to rack up his 10th Group One success. The reigning Champion Hurdle winner is now on course to defend his crown at the Cheltenham Festival where his odds have been slashed dramatically into odds-on for the feature race on day one in March.
Last year he got the better of Peddlers Cross up the hill at Cheltenham in what was his debut run in the UK.
Supporters of Mullins will also expect success at the Festival once again with Quevega in the David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle. The eight-year old is bidding for her fourth consecutive win in the race this year. Those placing a horse racing bet will be keeping a close eye on her.
Mullins' century of winners breaks the record he set in 2010 for the quickest toll when Hampshire Express won a handicap hurdle at Gowran Park. He now leads the Trainers Championship at this early stage by 36 wins, with Noel Meade in second place having been successful on 54 occasions this campaign.
Davey Russell currently leads the Jockeys Championship on 84 wins, whilst Walsh is not too far behind in second place on 69 winners.
