International Friendly Predictions: November 14th & 18th 2009
My last World cup Predictions went pretty well with me correctly predicting that England would beat Belarus & the Republic of Ireland would draw with Italy. (I Correctly Predicted both Ireland - Italy games as draws). I was wrong on Northern Ireland losing in the Czech Republic as they managed a draw but it was a case of too little too late for them as they failed to Qualify. I was also incorrect regarding England losing in Ukraine but as England were down to ten men for much of the game I don’t feel too bad about that result. So here we go for The Republic’s Play-off games against France as well as England’s prestige friendly against Brazil & the Wales Scotland friendly. I have also done quick predictions for all the other playoff games involving other European countries but only the Results, i.e., who goes through in each tie.

England last played Brazil in a friendly in 2007 when Brazil grabbed a late goal to earn a 1-1 draw. Such is England’s luck against Brazil. They have only ever beaten Brazil three times in 22 attempts. Their three victories have all come in friendly matches. The last victory was in 1990 when an early Gary Linker goal earned England a 1-0 victory just prior to the world cup of that year. England have played them seven times since then, losing three & drawing four. Not a good record. The last competitive game between the two sides saw Brazil knock England out 2-1 at the Quarter final stage of the 2002 World Cup. England Brazil games are usually close & I see no reason for this game to be any different. This game doesn’t count for much but It would still be nice if England could win well. Oh Well, one can dream.

Match 3: France -Republic of Ireland: (World Cup Play-off/2nd Leg: Paris 8pm):
France only lost one World Cup qualifier but the 3-1 defeat to Austria was enough to prevent them from coming top of their group. In the end they were only 1 point behind Serbia (whom they took four points off). The Austrian defeat was hard to take for France as they finished seven points ahead of the Austrians. France are not the side of six years ago but they are still a match for anyone on their day. They beat England in a friendly recently & will take some beating if they are to be knocked out by Ireland. Ireland will take heart from Scotland beating France twice in the last European Championship qualifiers even thou France still qualified at Scotland’s expense. Ireland had a tough group to qualify from & were never really going to come ahead of Italy even thou they did really well in drawing both Games with them. Ireland were unbeaten in their group games. They will need all their so called Irish luck to beat France. I am going for a France Victory over the two legs.

Both Scotland & Wales had bad World cup campaines & it really is hard to work out who is the worse of the two teams at present. Last time these sides played in a friendly wales won 4-0 when Mark hughes was manager. Wales have declined badly since then & haven’t looked like qualifying for late night lock inn at their local let alone a major finals. Scotland at least came close to the last Euro’s. Gone are the days when Scotland produced players of the likes of Kenny Dalglish, Graham Souness etc,etc. personnely I think the best thing that could help these International sides would be the re-introduction of the Home Internationals again as the Competetive nature of that competetion would help as well as the icome. Sadly the powers that be aren’t interested. The English FA should be helping it’s fellow home nations not ignoring them. A dour game methinks is in prospect but I think the Welsh might just edge it.
